*
Level: Intermediate

Discover the connections between the very first Christa McAuliffe Technology Conference and this 40th anniversary event with a two-tiered presentation that is both a history lesson and strategy session. This presentation will discuss the evolution of technology integration in the classroom--particularly since the beginning of the personal computer era--the problems technology has looked to solve, and the controversies that have arisen as a result. Social studies teacher Eric Salmonsen will contextualize the topic by demonstrating how CMTC session offerings from 1986 on reflect the educational and technological challenges of their times, identifying which stayed in their time period, and which persist. The session will then transition to a presentation of real-life lesson plans and project ideas that librarian Erin Mawn has utilized in her middle-school AI Exploration elective class. Just as the conference has looked to do since its inception, this presentation is designed to address the challenges that have always existed as well as those unique to Artificial Intelligence.
