Do you wish you had the time to... JUST READ? Our lives and our students lives have shifted to habits where screens, streaming, social media, and endless digital distractions have challenged us to simply sit back, relax, flip through the pages ... and JUST READ! It's time to strategize, regroup, and refocus these digital environments to help promote the love of reading. This practical workshop hopes to inspire educators to rethink and rebrand independent reading. Rather than treating independent reading as "one more thing" to fit into the curriculum, we'll explore ways to make reading a meaningful choice and a valued part of classroom culture while embracing the digital world that our students thrive in. Together we will brainstorm and discuss strategies to facilitate way to provide opportunities to encourage age-appropriate book choice, reading motivation and stamina, classroom routines, and student engagement with what they are reading. Participants will leave with creative, easy-to-implement ideas for refreshing independent reading, building a community of readers, and helping students see themselves as readers even in a digitally driven world. Above all, hopefully participants will get a refreshed sense of the importance to JUST READ and realize that the most powerful way to move students forward as readers is to give them the time, space, choice, and encouragement to discover why reading matters. |
