Student-Developed Community Archives:Learning to Think Like an Ethnographer
Mary Kuechenmeister, Founder/Executive Director, Story Preservation Initiative, and Sara Withers, UNH

Level: Intermediate
Grades: 6-8, 9-12

Become familiar with "The SPI Guide to Thinking Like an Ethnographer," developed by Story Preservation Initiative in 2021. The guide walks students through the process of developing their own a community archive. SPI will share with participants the organization's work in the areas of immigration and the aftermath of the pandemic. Sara Withers, a member of the Board of Directors of SPI and Senior Professor of Anthropology, UNH, will co-present. Sara organized and conducted nearly 40 oral history interviews that served as the basis for the documentary "Uprooted: Heartache and Hope in New Hampshire" that chronicles the lives of refugees and immigrants in NH.
