Oh, the Places You Will Go: Integrating Maps & Earth in Your Classroom Shane Peek, Instructional Technology Facilitator, Greenville County Schools (SC)

*  Level: Beginner Grades: K-5, 6-8, 9-12

What if we could take our students to the Serengeti, map out important WWII battles, or trace the steps of the Civil Rights Movement? What if our students could create informational tours of the Globe Theatre or discover the area/perimeter of Angkor Wat? With the aid of Google Maps & Earth, all of these excursions are possible! In this session, we will learn how to build collaborative, informative maps using Google Maps and discuss student projects for all content areas. Next, we will explore all that Google Earth has to offer including educational, interpretive tours all over the world. By the end of this session, you will have the skills necessary for you and your students to build informational tours on both platforms. Although the classroom applications are limitless, we will also brainstorm together and discuss ways to create, integrate, and utilize these tools in a standards-based manner.
